Steer show prep for the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo did not disappoint. I have been photographing Ashton each year as we work to compile all of her favorite high school sessions into a keepsake album that truly captures her High School years. You may remember her pig from last year, and I have been looking forward to today for an entire year since she roped her own calf at the rodeo’s famous calf scramble.
Ashton has been taking this steer to shows for many months, but this day was a special opportunity for for some family, friends, and her Ag teacher to give her any last tips before the big show at the Houston Rodeo this week. This is a true family affair as mom and dad helped bathe and wrangle the cows too.
The day was even more fun when I realized Ashton actually has two steers! While one will head to Houston this week, the other one will be for the Fort Bend County Fair this fall.
Steer show prep and run through was fun to watch so up-close. I am in awe how well Ashton handles such a large animal. He is so comfortable walking around, and you can tell they have formed a special bond together! Best of luck at the HLSR this week, and I hope this experience will always hold a special place in your heart!
