This session is more of a personal one as my eldest son Ethan headed to prom. This group of aspiring engineers met up for pictures together before heading to an escape room. The prom was held later at Houston Museum of Natural Science. The dance floor was set up among the dinosaur exhibit. It sounded like the kids had a great time, and they definitely enjoyed looking at all the exhibits too.
One of the prom expectations that have changed in the last few decades are flowers. Mini bouquets are very popular now rather than corsages. As a photographer, I love this! Posing a woman holding flowers is always more fun anyway. My daughter Adaline helped me make a little bouquet for this special young lady. Adaline was excited for her older brother’s big night and also drew a little card to wish them well. So cute!
You may recognize my son from a recent post of him at the University of Texas at Austin. This future longhorn has some exciting times ahead. I look forward to seeing where his path leads!
One of the biggest challenges in posing is where to put your hands. Have you ever seen a picture that looks a little off, and maybe you can’t pinpoint exactly why? It’s often awkward posing. People need somewhere to put their hands.
Some people are totally confident putting hands on hips or striking a pose, but most people need a little feedback with how to stand are where to put hands. One of the ways to pose and keeping the focus off your hands and arms is to put thumbs into pockets. Resist the urge to put hands in pockets, and just tuck that little thumb in to give your arms from depth away from your body. Look at the picture below as a visual. Also note the background that shows through to create space around the shape of the body. If arms stayed down, the tux would start to look like a big black blob with no shape.
